Whiskey Myers – A Band That Rocks a Crowd

Whiskey Myers are an East Texas red-dirt band who have fully embraced their Texas roots while being known for rocking crowds nationwide. Thanks to appearances in Kevin Costner’s hit series Yellowstone and new album Tornillo, their popularity is expanding quickly across the US.

This record ramps up the intensity of 2014’s Early Morning Shakes and 2016’s Mud. Their unique sound stands them apart in this genre-crossing crowd.

The Story

Though still considered “young pros”, the band has already garnered an avid following thanks to their high-energy concerts and distinctive sound that blends Texas Red Dirt Country with Southern Rock sensibility that is wholly their own.

Whiskey Myers hailing from Palestine, Texas is composed of Cody Cannon (lead vocals and acoustic guitar), Cody Tate (lead guitar and vocals), John Jeffers (rhythm guitar/lap steel guitar), Gary Brown (bass) and Jeff Hogg (drums). Their name comes from Charles Bukowski’s poem which states: if something bad occurs you drink to forget; otherwise you drink to celebrate.”

Their music is loud and proud, filled with relatable characters and situations celebrated through lyrics. It makes an excellent background soundtrack whether in a loud bar or when sitting under a tree on your favorite mountain. Their forthcoming album Tornillo explores rock, country and bluesy riffs for maximum listening pleasure.

The Band

Whiskey Myers have gained a devoted fan base through their musical style that suits both driving down highways in trucks and drinking beer with friends in boisterous bars. Cody Cannon’s soulful vocal delivery and charismatic stage presence is key in creating the unique character that defines their sound.

Cannon notes that his bandmates – Cody Tate (rhythm guitar and vocals); John Jeffers (lead guitarist and vocals); and Jeff Hogg (drummer) do not focus too much on sales numbers or streaming statistics, opting instead to remain true to themselves and write lyrics that resonate with listeners.

Authenticity is of utmost importance for the band in creating relationships with their fans, and their electrifying live performances have long been revered for their energy and emotion. Now with 2022’s Tornillo out, they continue to adapt their blend of rock and country with horns and bluesy riffs for an organic rootsy sound perfect for both packed bars and packed stadiums alike.

The Music

Whiskey Myers draws its name from an oath taken upon formation of the band by Cody, John and Jeff at its inception. Based out of East Texas rock music scene, these East Texas rockers blend several genres together into a sound which is hard to describe yet easily identifiable.

From celebrating fellow Texans like ZZ Top’s Dusty Hill in “Die Rockin'” to honoring those they have lost with “Bury My Bones”, it is evident that this band does not shy away from exploring a variety of emotions and stories in its music – something which sets them apart from bands who boast influences as diverse as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Waylon Jennings or Nirvana as influences.

Tornillo showcases their musical diversity to great effect on its 2019 album Tornillo, starting off with Little Feat’s-influenced “Whole World Gone Crazy,” and concluding with an intense, horn-led rendition of “Gasoline.” This record showcases their creative capabilities at their best.

The Tour

Whiskey Myers have been touring relentlessly since releasing their self-produced fifth album WHISKEY MYERS on Wiggy Thump Records last summer, selling out more than 3,000 shows around the globe and topping marquee festivals like Bonnaroo and Stagecoach in 2022.
