23rd August 2024Brett Goldstein first came into our lives as the foul-mouthed Roy F**king Kent from Apple TV’s award-winning comedy Ted Lasso. Additionally, he’s the writer/co-creator behind “Shrinking”, featuring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.
He’s an award-winning comedian who tours his show “The Second Best Night of Your Life.” In short, he’s an expert at everything.
He is a writer and actor
Brett Goldstein won back-to-back Emmys for his portrayal of Roy Kent on Apple TV’s Ted Lasso, earning two Emmy awards as part of this role. Now, after making the transition to standup comedy in America with “The Second Best Night of Your Life Tour”, he will perform in Connecticut at Toyota Oakdale Theater on March 30.
Goldstein has been performing comedy for more than a decade, appearing 11 times at Edinburgh Fringe and appearing as an actor in one 2015 movie and having recurring roles on British series such as Derek and Drifters.
Goldstein is best known as co-creator and EP of the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking, starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, while hosting iHeartRadio award-winning podcast Films to Be Buried With. Goldstein’s unique ability to break down bureaucratic silos across industries from Defense to Silicon Valley makes him a sought-after speaker; he has even advised Cabinet Secretaries and C suite executives on national security matters.

He began his technology career at OpenTable before becoming Chicago’s inaugural municipal Chief Data Officer, using big data to spur civic innovation and improve city services. Additionally, he established the nation’s inaugural municipal Chief Information Officer role – leading efforts using data and technology for improved public safety, citizen services and economic development.

He is a stand-up comedian
Goldstein, who hails from London, England, initially embarked on his career as an actor. He enrolled in film courses at college and studied acting with the American Academy of Dramatic Arts; however, soon realized his true calling lay in comedy rather than acting and made the switch to stand-up instead of studying further acting techniques. Since then he has appeared in multiple TV shows and movies.
Goldstein uses his comedy act to poke fun at male ego and its associated behaviors, without crossing into offensive territory; his jokes are genuine and relatable to audiences.
He also hosts the podcast Films to Be Buried With, where he interviews actors about their favorite films. His passions lie with film noir, comedy process chat and Star Wars discussions – guests on his show have included Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Morrison and Jason Sudeikis among many others.

Goldstein is an accomplished comedian and actor. He has written and performed four solo stand-up shows and hosts the popular comedy podcast Films to be Buried With, where guests discuss films that have had an influence in their lives. Goldstein earned himself the BIFA Award for Best Supporting Actor in Adult Life Skills; additionally, he has made appearances in other comedic films like Drifters and Derek.
He can currently be seen co-starring in Apple TV+ series Shrinking with co-creator Bill Lawrence and has also co-created AMC limited anthology series Soulmates alongside Black Mirror writer Will Bridges.
