21st August 2024Few electronic touring artists have endured like Seven Lions over time. The producer is an indisputable headliner, having performed at major festivals such as Porter Robinson’s Circle Assembly tour as well as sold out venues like Tacoma Dome and Avalon Hollywood.
Lions bound for Akagera have been donated by two relatively small reserves: Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife from Tembe Elephant Park – two confined reserves which need to relocate surplus animals due to overpopulation. Their journey begins on 29 June when they will be tranquilised and loaded onto trucks before being transported directly to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
About the Artist
Seven Lions’ sound bridges the gap between trance and dubstep, combining melodic elements with dark undertones. Based out of Los Angeles, Seven Lions started his career playing drums for punk and metal bands before finding his niche producing electronic music during the early 2000s.
After winning a remix competition with his dubstep-focused rendition of Above & Beyond’s You Got to Go, Polarize by Kerri Chandler became his debut EP release and quickly reached #1 on iTunes Dance Chart both domestically and internationally.
Seven Lions’ award-winning singles like Strangers, Alive and Don’t Leave showcase a talent for creating music that explores human emotion. His tracks conjure feelings of hopelessness, loss and longing – offering listeners an escape from everyday stressors.

Seven Lions is one of the few producers who has succeeded in weathering the post-brostep era so successfully, garnering multiple #1s on Beatport Dubstep charts and playing multiple nights at Red Rocks venue.
Seven Lions is also co-founder of Ophelia Records, an esteemed label known for supporting melodic bass artists from across genres and styles. Renowned for his captivating melodies and cinematic productions that captivate listeners around the globe, Seven Lions has made himself an international hero among his many followers.
Seven Lions’ story is intricately interwoven with that of Above & Beyond, from his winning entry in their remix competition for Zoe Johnston’s single ‘You Gotta Go’ all the way through to their full-fledged collaboration and the release of Beyond The Veil as his debut album – an impressive journey combining dubstep, trance and progressive house elements into an immersive whole.

Seven Lions is an excellent bet; serving Brussels sprouts, burrata cheese and filet mignon with no risk to your arteries. The vibe here is more modern interpretation of classic clubhouse restaurant than you’d find in an establishment like that run by old lawyers wearing top hats; so if you want an enjoyable dining experience with friends then Seven Lions should do nicely.
On this album, Seven Lions does an admirable job at keeping things interesting. One track that attempts to diversify his sound from what has come before (Days To Come) proves this point; unfortunately it was insufficient in breaking Montalvo out of his creative rut since Polarize. While Seven Lions makes an attempt at entering modern eurodance circles it remains clear he lacks enough talent for complete success in doing so.

Jeff Montalvo, more commonly known by his moniker Seven Lions, is an American DJ and producer known for fusing together electronic music styles such as trance, dubstep and other styles into unforgettable combinations. Seven Lions first gained prominence after winning Above & Beyond’s Remix Competition held in 2012 which led him to release Polarize EP via Skrillex’s OWSLA label.
As his musical footprint spread throughout OWSLA and other major labels, his name became associated with melodic bass music. Now leading Ophelia Records which has made waves through its tour-worthy anthems.
