What is Wallows?
Wallows–comprised of Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston–has earned widespread acclaim since their breakout single, “Pleaser,” launched them into prominence within the music industry. Their 2019 debut full-length, Nothing Happens, did not disappoint their ardent fan base and delivered on its promise as their irresistible melodies and dynamic instrumentation have proven themselves once again.
On their latest album Model, Model explores themes of heartbreak and admiration through nostalgic-infused melodies and dreamy synthesizers. Already the record is making waves among Spotify listeners while it also makes for a fantastic live experience.
Opening act spill tab, also known as Claire Chicha, mesmerized audiences with her relaxed aesthetics and relatable lyrics. She got them dancing despite only using a laptop computer and microphone stands.
The band’s sound
Wallows singer/guitarists Braeden Lemasters and Dylan Minnette share the kind of friendship that makes songs catchy upon first listen, creating live shows that feel like gatherings among your best pals. Best friends since preteen years, these musicians have dedicated much of their lives to exploring music together – creating an expansive repertoire with both oddball and eclectic influences.
Nothing Happens, their 2019 debut full-length release, showcased their ability to conjure audio vibrancy. Punchy guitar riffs were joined by summery synth washes and buoyant keys while still maintaining the band‘s signature sway.
Last month, they unveiled Model, their six-song collection that shows their pop rock hearts openly. From new love anxiety to having someone by your side – Model captures everything that defines young adulthood while remaining relatable for any listener.
The band’s members
Wallows consists of singer-songwriters Braeden Lemasters and Dylan Minnette as well as drummer Cole Preston. The trio met through Join the Band program at School of Rock, and have since been making music together.
Wallows quickly established themselves after the success of their debut single, Pleaser, garnering them widespread popularity and touring opportunities. In 2018, Wallows released their EP Spring to rave reviews from publications like TIME and Stereogum.
The band exudes an easygoing nature which shines through their music. They have drawn inspiration from classic rock (Kings of Leon, Rolling Stones and The Strokes) as well as alternative/indie influences like Mac DeMarco, Vampire Weekend and St Vincent but make their own sound.
Although their schedules can be hectic – both members have acting careers; Dylan recently featured in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why – they still make time to record, tour, and enjoy quality time with one another. Their dynamic performances captivate their audiences, leaving them buzzing with energy and anticipation!
