NEW YORK — Authorities said Monday that they are currently looking into sexual assault allegations with a youthful celebrity against Italian actress Asia Argento — among the activists of the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment.
Los Angeles County Agency ’s Capt. Darren Harris said investigators from his division will try to speak to Jimmy Bennett or his representatives concerning the alleged incident at a Southern California resort in 2013, when Bennett was 17.
The move comes in response to a New York Times story saying Argento, 42, settled a lawful notice of intent to sue registered by Bennett, who is now 22, for $380,000 shortly after she explained last October that movie mogul Harvey Weinstein raped her.
Argento along with Bennett co-starred at a 2004 film called “The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things” where Argento played with Bennett’s prostitute mom.
Bennett states that he had intercourse with Argento at the Ritz-Carlton resort in Marina del Rey, California, at 2013. The age of consent in California is 18.
The notice states the experience traumatized Bennett and harm his career, ” the Times reported.
Researchers have discovered no police report has been filed at the time, Harris explained.
The paper said it received court documents that included a selfie of Argento and Bennett from the mattress. Three people said the documents were accurate, ” the Times reported.
In a statement to The Associated Press on Monday, an attorney for Bennett explained ldquo & the celebrity;doesn’t want to comment on the documents or the events” at that time.
The statement asked for privacy and noticed that Bennett would shoot “the subsequent 24 hours, or longer, to prepare his response. ”
Argento became among the most famous activists of the #MeToo motion after she informed the New Yorker magazine that Weinstein raped her at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 when she was 21. Argento advised the magazine that she continued to have a relationship with Weinstein since she was afraid of angering him.
Weinstein has been indicted on sex offense accusations involving three women, but not including Argento.
Representatives for Argento did not respond to a request from The Associated Press for comment.
