If street fashion icons like The Blonde Salad’s Chiara Ferragni have taught us anything, it’s that dreams do come true if you can achieve sartorial splendor on the sidewalk as much as catwalk. Street style has been around in several forms over time but it has taken on a whole new life in the past couple of years since a defining motion worth analyzing. Fashion Group International (FGI) will do just that at the event “The Street is your Runway,” at Velvet Wolf this Wednesday, September 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Street style appeared on our radar if visionary photographers like the Bill Cunningham started to capture pictures of people on the streets of New York. Websites like The Sartorialist — started from photographer, Scott Shuman — began documenting the way people expressed themselves by their clothing and followed suit. That spark ignited a movement because the way people interpret trends using their own signature 26, which links all forms of self-expression and street style.
FGI’s event will challenge attendees to examine street fashion, it’s current impact and its longevity . The night will include a panel discussion with specialists like streetwear designer, Deb Henriksen along with Tom Handley, also a professor of marketing and public relations at Parsons School of Design in New York City. Guests to the event will also receive 10% off tickets to Denver Fashion Week’s Street Style Fashion Show, including new designers like Rebellelion, darkm0th Industry, Interracial Friends and Electric Bubblegum.
“The Street is your Runway” will begin at 6:30 pm within Velvet Wolf at Stanley Marketplace, 2501 Dallas St., Aurora. Tickets begin at $10 for students and may be bought here.
