Origins is a brand new music attribute providing an artist the opportunity to expose some of the deeper inspirations behind their newest single.

John Nolan, understood as a part of Taking Back Sunday along with also his Straylight Run side-project, has announced a new solo record named Abendigo.  His third solo full size follows 2015’s Sad Strange Beautiful Dream, the LP is due out November 2nd via Collective Confusion Records.

Abendigo marks a small stylistic change for Nolan, both lyrically and musically.  Working together with producer Mike Sapone (TBS, Brand New) and engineer Brett Romnes (Sorority Noise),” Nolan brushed digital and ambient components into his familiar indie-emo sounds. The resulting music are bigger than anything that he s performed filled with self explanatory and a new fury. It s a fitting soundscape to construct off of Nolan moves from introspection toward a test of the societal” human ailment.

The storm of only “Do You Remember? ” catches it all. There s a beauty fans of Straylight Run will recall from efforts like 2005’s Prepare to Be Wrong EP, but it s all awarded weight. Tension builds in Nolan’s delivery before it explodes in frustration “They called out from the mess We brought this to ourselves! ’/ Do you remember? Can you remember? ”

Volume shootings and existential dread:

In an abstract fashion, “Do You Remember? ” handles our full inability locate any kind of solutions and to process tragedies like mass shootings. Rather than tackle this in a way, I wanted to tap into the sensation of dread a lot people have dwelling in a place where tragedies take place and are shrugged off. The songs came first and in a great deal of ways inspired the lyrics. Before the vocals were composed, I listened to the songs and it felt really menacing and menacing. I believe right from the beginning I was channeling . It’s not a hopeful song but the procedure for carrying anger, frustration and confusion and expressing it in songs is hopeful to me. If folks hear it I’d love this to be a way for them to assist process a number of that identical anger and frustration in a positive way.

The Rubberbandits – “Dads Best Friend”:

I first became aware of the song viewing Trainspotting 2. There’s a scene in which a few of these characters are sitting around watching the audio while the song plays in the background. I don’t believe the end result is similar, but the components I enjoyed and explained in “Dad’s Best Friend” are there in “Do You Remember? ”.

The Onion first posted this headline following a mass shooting that happened a few years back. Ever since then theyrsquo;ve re introduced it again and again changing the details from the story to coincide with the shooting. Although it’s satirical, I think that it underscores the insanity of these countries answer to shootings better than any statement that is serious can.

The War of Art by Steven Pressfield:

For most of my life as a song writer I’ve ever waited for inspiration to strike before I sat down to work on something. This has worked for me personally but also meant that I’d go long stretches of time and then have an explosion of inspiration in which I’d compose a couple of tunes in a week. I have tired of the process and decided I wanted to make song writing a part of my life. I began reading The War of Art to allow me to do this. The first few chapters deal with all the excuses we create to stop ourselves. It basically informs you simply sit down each day and to quit making excuses and do the job. Irrespective of should you ’ re busy with other things or whether you & rsquo; re feeling motivated make it a priority to invest time doing what you need to creatively. Funnily enough, I didn’t complete the book. I took the advice to center in these very first few chapters and began sitting down every day to compose tunes. I was really surprised how well it worked. I wouldn’t compose a song every time but I’d have an idea that would be the beginning of a song. When Irsquo;d sit down to compose Irsquo;d have something to use and usually come up with another new thought. “Do You Remember? ” and many of the tunes on my new album are the end result of this strategy.

Jodorowsky’s Dune:

I was introduced to movie manufacturer Alejandro Jodorowsky from my producer Mike Sapone. He showed me a documentary named Jodorowsky’s Dune. It s the story of this ambitious and mind blowing notion he’d for adapting the novel Dune to a film. He went deep into producing comprehensive concept art, the story board and script prior to the job failed because of lack of funding. I suggest checking out the film if you’theres never heard of Jodorowsky or Dune. His own way of art and his creative vision are fascinating and inspiring. After viewing the documentary I saw two of his movies by the ’70s, El Topo and Holy Mountain. They Both are I’ve ever seen. Beautifully nightmarish and created. They tap into something which ’s extremely disturbing but at precisely exactly the exact identical moment, thought provoking and meaningful. He’s been creating movies, writing and producing various kinds of artwork for more than fifty years, therefore I’m really just starting to delve into what he s done. Seeing someone like him with a dedication to their artistic vision that is is extremely inspiring to me personally and will remain for quite a while.
