Happy Birthdays Bob Weir & John Mayer: Watch 5 Non-Dead & Co Collaborations

Today marks the birthdays of Dead & Company guitarists Bob Weir and John Mayer. Weir was born on October 16, 1946 in San Francisco while Mayer was born 31 years later in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Although Mayer emerged in the early 2000s in the pop realm, he was deeply influenced by the blues, as were Weir and the Grateful Dead. John began to gravitate toward the wonderful world of the Dead after hearing “Althea” on Pandora in 2011. Mayer became a self-described “Deadhead” after that and took a deep dive into the GD catalog.

A few years after that fateful algorithmic occurrence, Mayer would get the chance to perform with Bob Weir when the latter was a guest on The Late Show which the former was guest hosting in February 2015. The guitarists performed the aforementioned “Althea” as well as “Truckin.” Just months later, John found himself on stage as the lead guitarist in Dead & Company.

But to celebrate Bobby and John’s birthday, JamBase takes a look at five non-Dead & Company collaborations between the guitarists in the past half-decade beginning with their serendipitous meeting on The Late Show below:
