Watch Andrew Bird And Iron & Wine Perform At Yosemite National Park

Singer-songwriters Andrew Bird and Iron & Wine (Sam Beam) teamed up to help launch Lucky Brand and La Blogothèque’s Play For The Parks series. The videos filmed at the scenic Yosemite National Park see Beam backing Bird up on the latter’s “Manifest” while Andrew returns the favor on Iron & Wine’s “Upward Over The Mountain.”

Head of Marketing SVP at Lucky Brand Michael DeLellis detailed Play For The Parks in a statement:

Lucky Brand has had a long-standing history of providing artists and musicians with a platform for self-expression. Play for the Parks is our latest content series installment that highlights artists’ voices while paying tribute to our great American landscape. We are excited to share these intimate music videos with our consumers and music lovers everywhere.

Filmed at Yosemite’s stunning Tenaya Lake, Andrew Bird’s performances include My Finest Work Yet favorite “Manifest” featuring Iron & Wine. Play For The Parks mark the duo’s first collaborations. Andrew also delivers the live debut of his yet-to-be-released track, “Fixed Positions.’ Bird spoke about how the environment influences his music in a press release.

“As a performer, reacting to my environment has been a constant driver,” Andrew said. “From my Echolocations series to Gezelligheid concerts to Play for the Parks, the idea is simple: be flexible and wait for your environment to tell you what it wants to hear. With Sam Beam and Yosemite as collaborators, this was an ideal environment.”

Captured at Yosemite’s gorgeous Cathedral Beach, Sam Beam’s performance of “Upward Over the Mountain” from his 2002 debut LP, The Creek Drank The Cradle, features Bird on fiddle, harmonies and his trademark whistling. Sam also offers up “Call It Dreaming” from 2017’s Beast Epic. Beam detailed his experience as well.

“No photograph can prepare a person for the scale and beauty of Yosemite, it was my first visit and I was completely overwhelmed!” Sam said. “What a blessing to be able to spend it making music with Andrew Bird – and ankle deep in water to boot!”

Andrew Bird and Iron & Wine will reunite at another idyllic locale, Red Rocks, in 2022.
