Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus form new group boygenius, announce debut EP

Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus have formed the greatest singer-songwriter supergroup: boygenius. The trio of musicians will release their introduction EP under the moniker, they’ll support with a North American tour this fall.

The idea for establishing an actual ring came to mind following their joint excursion was mapped out by the three. “A long time ago, before I even met Phoebe, Julien said she had a pipe dream of starting a band ” Dacus clarified in a press announcement. “Then this tour was booked by us and decided the time was appropriate. ”

They didn’t have some time on their side — upon assembly, Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus obtained along like kindred spirits. Baker elaborated:

“When we met, Lucy and Phoebe and I were in similar places in our lives and our musical endeavors, but had similar attitudes toward music that engendered a direct affinity. Lucy and Phoebe are extremely talented performers, and I am a lover of the art outside however they are also both quite sensible, discerning and kind men and women whom I look up to in character. ”

The consequent boygenius EP was recorded in one afternoon in early June at Los Angeles’ famous Sound City studios. Each songwriter was tasked with bringing an idea for brainstorming and one finished song along. Altogether, the six-track effort reflects a little every artist and their various previous functions (Baker’s excellent Turn Out the Bright Lights, Bridgers’ Stranger from the Alps, also Dacus’ Historian).

Due out November 9th, the EP is being previewed with three new tunes in “Me & My Dog”, “Bite The Hand”, & “Stay Down”. Take a listen below.
