Paul Simon hit the penultimate night of his Homeward Bound farewell tour on Friday. The legendary singer-songwriter played his second of two shows at Madison Square Garden that featured a brief cameo from his wife Edie Brickell.
The 76-year-old musician has mostly stuck to a rigid setlist throughout his closing run of shows. Last night was no different as Simon delivered classics like “America,” “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover,” “Mother and Child Reunion” and “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” alongside a selection of deeper cut album tracks and a pair of tunes he re-recorded for his new studio album In The Blue Light. The lone surprise last night came at the midway point of his 18-song main set as Brickell emerged during “Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard.” Brickell made a brief appearance during the iconic song Simon’s 1972 self-titled album to impressively deliver the tune’s whistling part.
Paul Simon will wrap up his Homeward Bound tour on Saturday with a show at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens. Watch fan-shot video of Edie Brickell’s appearance captured by Otom Izot below:
