There have been more than a few studies that have looked to the drug eating habits of digital music fans, and since the musical genre has gone from appearing to mainstream,researchers continue their search to the stigma associated with EDM fans being fallacy or fact. Drugabuse.com recently did a study that quantified not only digital music fans for their drug and alcohol intake during live events, but fans from various musical genres to ascertain how linked musical decisions were to ingestion. Drugabuse.com surveyed over 970 individuals about their substance use, their average age when first consuming drugs or alcohol in music events, and also the reason why they decided to utilize these substances in live music events. Their findings, although based on a rather small pool of individuals, are insightful.

Electronic music fans were the most intoxicated concert-goers from all the genre’s attempted, nonetheless heavy metal enthusiasts were a close second. 67.5percent of digital music concert-goers reported intoxication in live music events, even while 62.2percent of heavy-metal lovers reported intoxication.

Where heavy metal fans beat out digital music fans for the best place is age of ingestion of alcohol or drugs in a live music event. Heavy metal fans, on average, ran in to alcohol or drugs at an event beginning at 19, whereas digital music fans reported their initial rush at being at age 20.

The major difference between heavy metal and digital music fans for ingestion comes down to the reason the fans consume at live events. Two in five significant metal fans reported they have alcohol or drugs to lessen social anxiety, whereas 77% of digital music fans reported consuming alcohol or drugs to boost their enjoyment.
