“Playing myself in the Pokémon detective movie is the first time my kids have ever thought i’m cool.”

Diplo has his hands – and that contains the Pokémon franchise. The DJ/producer and decorated hitmaker appears in the trailer for POKÉMON Detective Pikachu.

The movie looks to be a U.S. live adaptation of Pokémon, which started out in Japan as a Nintendo Game Boy game and then grew to include a tv show, card game and many feature-length films. At a brief clip at 1:16 in the trailer published now, Diplo (real name Thomas Wesley Pentz Jr.) can be seen performing behind DJ decks.

“Playing myself in the Pokémon detective movie is the first time my kids have ever thought I’m cool,” tweeted Pentz, confirming the appearance for a cameo. He has not disclosed if any lines are delivered by him, or how long his scene in the movie is.

Pikachu, the main character of the movie, is voiced by Ryan Reynolds. Other members of the cast include Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton and Ken Watanabe.
