The jam scene lost one of its most talented musicians on Friday, when multi-instrumentalist Kofi Burbridge died at age 57 due to complications surrounding treatment for an ongoing cardiac issue. Tributes to Kofi have come pouring in since Friday. “The world lost a true genius on Friday. Kofi Burbridge was a beautiful man, loving friend, and brilliant musician,” wrote the Tedeschi Trucks Band, a group he helped create in 2010. “We are eternally grateful he came into our lives, sharing his many gifts and inspiring us both in music and life. With heavy hearts we will carry on in his spirit, and do our best to honor him and his legacy. He’ll be a part of us forever.” Kofi’s brother, Oteil Burbridge, simply added, “My hero.”:
Here’s a look at some of the many tributes to Kofi:

Woke up this morning and found out our brother Kofi passed away. To be honest, it’s going to take me a while to really put my feelings into words but I felt like I had to say something after seeing @joshtimmermans posted one of my favorite photos of us. Oteil and Kofi were the first truly scary and amazing musicians I met in my early touring life. We just bonded right from the start. It took us over 20 years for the four of us to record and play live as a band but it was one of the most magical experiences of my life. Not many people know but Iron Wax Studios exists because of Kofi, Oteil and Neal. I decided to reopen a studio right before of our recording session.
.
I use the word genius sparingly and Kofi was a true genius. Beyond that, Kofi was one of the sweetest people you could ever hang with. My world will not be the same without Kofi but I am eternally grateful to have been a part of his world. I’m a greater person and artist because of him
i am just devastated to learn of the passing of one of the most beautiful personal and musical souls in my life. Kofi…

RIP Kofi Burbridge! Super Talented player and Beautiful Human! You will be greatly missed. #kofiburbridge
We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Kofi Burbridge (1961 – 2019). A truly gifted musician, he played with The Allman Brothers Band on several occasions after his younger brother Oteil joined the ABB in 1997. The last time Dickey and Kofi shared the stage was in 2013, when Dickey and Duane Betts joined Derek Trucks and the Tedeschi Trucks Band during their annual Beacon run. Here’s Dickey, Duane, Derek, Susan and Kofi performing Elmore James 1959 classic The Sky Is Crying live at The Beacon Theatre. New York City, NY. September 21, 2013.

Rest In Peace
I’ll miss you forever
I met Kofi in 2007 on a gig we played together in Charleston SC. Immediately Kofi and I became friends as if we had already been friends in a past life. Looks like I’ll have to wait for the next life to pick up where we left off.
Very sad news today. Rest In Peace Kofi. Sincerest condolences to the Burbridge family and the @derekandsusan family from Team GA.
We are beyond saddened to have to say goodbye to brother Kofi Burbridge. Thank you for your friendship and your music.
