After conquering the 2020 summer with Golden Hour, opening a “new chapter of music” in April with the James Gillespie-backed “Gone Are The Days,” and acting as one of Red Rocks’ first full-capacity event hosts of the year, Kygo has returned to reposition his seat atop the tropical house throne, bringing in Zoe Wees for assistance on “Love Me Now.”
Kygo was candid in clarifying that he set out to shift sonic course with his prior original, but even from the bite-sized preview posted to his Instagram, everyone was immediately on the same page in understanding that the tropical house king has emphatically not lost his touch. “Love Me Now” feels like a balanced cocktail of stylistic building blocks from Kygo’s past and present eras, tying a polished, emotive topline from 19-year-old German singer-songwriter Zoe Wees together with his model tropical persona and healthy dosage of vocal cuts. With his first-ever Palm Tree festival scheduled for the Hamptons later this August and a headlining date with Los Angeles’ Banc Of California Stadium shortly thereafter, Kygo will continue his first string of in-person performances for his third album and subsequent new music.
