[UPDATED] Mike Gordon Offers Debuts In Atlanta

Mike Gordon returned to the road with his solo band on Friday kicking off a two-week tour at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. The bassist offered up a pair of brand new tunes along with his band’s debuts of the Phish song “Infinite” and a cover Led Zeppelin’s “D’yer Ma’ker”

Gordon along with guitarist Scott Murawski, drummer John Kimock, keyboardist Robert Walter and percussionist Craig Myers got their first gig of 2019 off the ground with “Steps” and “Stealing Jamaica” from 2017’s OGOGO. The debut of the Murawski-penned “Acid Man” followed. The funky new tune, which was sung by Murawski, came ahead of the pairing of Tame Impala’s “Mind Mischief” and Talking Heads’ “Cities.” The second surprise of the evening followed as Gordon reached for “Infinite,” serving up the tune for the first time with his solo band. Last night marked just the third time the song had been played live since it was debuted by Phish last summer at The Gorge.

The five-piece act would lean in on mix material from OGOGO and Overstep to get their second frame going, delivering takes on “Let’s Go,” “Peel,” “Marissa” and “Jumping.” The quartet went with back-to-back debuts next. First up was the Gordon/Murawski collaboration “Sughn Never Sets,” which saw Mike handle vocals. Gordon & Co. then delivered a take on “D’yer Ma’ker” from Led Zeppelin’s 1973 album Houses Of The Holy. “How Many People Are You” was tapped as the lone encore last night in Atlanta.

Taper Z-Man recorded Friday’s show in Atlanta. Stream “Acid Man,” “Infinite,” “Sughn Never Sets” and “D’yer Ma’ker” below and head here to download the entire concert:
